Series I: Correspondence, 1998-2000
Scope and Content Note
Contains copies of emails, handwritten notes, and letters to and from Stoner. Correspondence relates to visiting museums and galleries to view Albert Moore's paintings, requesting images, and sharing information with or requesting information from scholars about Albert Moore's life and work.
Of note is correspondence with the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute (1998-1999), in which Howard M. Stoner provided evidence from his own research that a painting by Albert Moore had been misdated and mistitled - it was cataloged as Reclining Model, 1873 but ought to have been titled and dated Lilies, 1866. Curator Richard Rand at the Clark Institute agreed with Stoner's conclusion and updated the museum's records. Howard M. Stoner's original folder titles related to this project refer to it as "the Lilies letter."
