Scope and Content Note

Album contains portraits of various members and friends of the Frick family. The bulk of these portray friends of Helen Clay Frick, including Mary McNeal, Ella Buck Williams, Henrietta Thaw Slade, Margarita Frew Rowland, Virginia Frew Wright, Emily Bayne Bossom, Helen Ferguson Tilford, Elizabeth Holmes McLeod, Mary Allen ("Polly") Dixon Turner, Katharine McCook Knox, and Eleanor Whitney Fosburgh. Portraits of some of these women were taken at or around the time of their marriages, and some depict them with their children. Among other portraits found in this album are S.L. Schoonmaker, a close friend and business associate of Henry Clay Frick; Clara B. Spence, head of the Spence School from which Helen Clay Frick graduated in 1908; and George Harvey, author of Henry Clay Frick: The Man. Family members seen here include Henry Clay Frick's uncle, Christian S. Overholt, and Adelaide H.C. Frick's sister-in-law, Mary Belle Hogg Childs.
