Series I: Writings, 1924-1979
Scope and Contents note
Arranged alphabetically by title of publication. Series contains manuscript and typescript drafts, correspondence, notes, and printed material documenting Katharine McCook Knox’s writings on early American art. Writings include periodical articles, books, catalog entries, and unpublished work. Includes both her personal research, and work carried out for the Frick Art Reference Library. Paintings in the White House, a binder of unpublished research presented to the White House, is documented only in draft form; a copy of the completed version was not retained for the Library’s collection. The Frick Art Reference Library staff contributed greatly to the rewriting and editing of The Story of the Frick Art Reference Library: The Early Years in the 1970s, and their notes and reference materials are included in this series.
