Purchased 24 December 1908 from M. Knoedler & Co., New York, N.Y.
Returned to Knoedler for credit toward the purchase of Van Dyck's "James, Seventh Earl of Derby, His Lady and Child" on 17 February 1913. Folder contains correspondence with Charles Carstairs, accounts payable voucher (No. 9215), and red envelope (No. 163), along with items from Bill Book No. 2 and the Red Book. Correspondence mentions "The Cottage Girl" [by Gainsborough], unnamed works by ter Borch, Hobbema, and Cuyp, praise for Velázquez's "Queen Marianna of Austria," and commitment to Frick's collection ("...your collection must by the greatest achievement of my poor life.") Voucher reflects credit for return of Israels' "Near the Cradle."
