Series III: Progress Reports, 1933-1936
Scope and Contents note
The series is arranged chronologically. The progress reports are a documentation of the breadth of work performed during the construction period. Examples of this include the removal and protection of various parts of the residence such as ornamental detail, wood paneling, bath fixtures and stone work; demolition of the former Library building and the adjacent townhouses; expansion of the former private rooms of the Frick family; a complete transformation of the former entranceway, porte cochere and carriage yard of the Frick residence; monitoring and testing of newly installed equipment and materials; construction of a basement vault to hold the art and furnishings during the construction period; and the construction of a new building to house the Frick Art Reference Library.
Progress reports were filled out daily by the general contractor, Marc Eidlitz & Son, and include weather conditions, the name of contractor, total number of men on a job, work class name, number of workers for each class and a description of the work completed on that day. Under Marc Eidlitz & Son, the description of work is categorized under headings such as Carpentry, Masonry, Excavation and General, with each type of labor fully described. This is followed by a list of subcontractors on the job that particular day and a description of the work completed. Details of materials, equipment and costs can be found in Series II: Bills, Receipts & Vouchers and original work specifications and contracts are found in Series I: Contracts and Orders.
