Scope and Contents note
Contains Thomas Kirby's correspondence regarding American Art Association auction sales, copies of letters pertaining to provenance, and miscellaneous notes and essays. Correspondents include Arthur B. Emmons, Francis Davis Millet, and William Fuller. Emmons correspondence concerns three American Art Association sales in which works he owned were sold. Also includes 16 letters sent to Charles de Kay from correspondents other than Thomas Kirby. Of note is an essay on the American Art Association's relationship with George Inness, and letters concerning the controversy over the sale of Blue Boy.
