Series III: Furnishings

 Series

Scope and Content Note

This series contains documentation, 1906-1918, regarding the acquisition of furnishings for Eagle Rock, including books and decorative arts. A ledger at the beginning of the series gives an overview of expenditures. The series also contains an undated list of articles transferred from the Vanderbilt mansion at 640 Fifth Avenue in New York to Eagle Rock, though it is not clear if this list dates from around the time of Eagle Rock's completion in 1906, or if it was created when the Fricks left that house in 1914.

The bulk of the series consists of files of various decorators, dealers, and firms, including White, Allom & Co.; Elsie de Wolfe; Cottier & Co.; and Duveen Brothers. Contents of these files typically consist of correspondence and invoices. Documentation of purchases from Duveen Brothers dates from as early as 1906, and represents Henry Clay Frick's earliest dealings with that firm. Later purchases from Duveen Brothers include items acquired from the collection of J.P. Morgan, who died in 1913. For documentation regarding additional purchases from Duveen Brothers, see: Art Collecting Files of Henry Clay Frick.

Files are arranged alphabetically.
